were British subjects.

The prisoner referred to has been arrested by

the Hsin-an Magistrate, and I have the honour to request

that you will be good enough to move His Excellency the

Governor of Hongkong to detail an officer, to procced

without delay with the witnesses to Hsin An, in order to

facilitate a fair trial and the due sentence of the

prisoner.

I have sent instructions in this sonse to the

Magistrate of Hsin An, and avail etc. *
